...is better than yesterday! This has been my mantra lately! Some days I get so overwhelmed just thinking about my to-do list...this meeting, that deadline, work, overtime, church, practices, school, homework, housecleaning, etc. etc! I have no time for ME!!! But I have to thank God that I have what I have, who I have in my life, and the fact that I'm surrounded by some great people. I can look around me and see some of the most beautiful faces and wonderful spirits of the people in my life: those on my job, in my church, my home, my family, and even my on-line forums...yeah...I love me some YOU!!! Take the time to appreciate those around you and all that you are given. It WILL make a difference in your everyday life! Be blessed my people and always remember to...

Celebrate Sistahood Blog Hop!

So today I'd like to share some the the various activities we have over at Scraps Of Color! They help bring out the creative in me and I hope they will inspire you, too! We have several groups of interest you can join; a gallery full of projects you can post in; a magazine you can submit ideas to; and swaps, crops and of course hops you can join, to name a few.

One of my favorite swaps is the Secret Sistah Christmas Swap. We list our favorite scrap supplies and goodies for our sistahs information, swap names and info, and then we send our "secret sistah" their fave goodies up until Christmas!

It's so fun to get packages, but it's even BETTER to receive!

And my sistahs are so creative with their gifts!

Sometimes I do get in a little slump or have a "creative block" and I need something to pick me up or get my creative juices flowing-it's always hardest at the start, I don't care WHAT it is you are doing!

So once in a while, I look at craft or scrap booking magazines, and peruse my favorite craft store, and even hit my fave craft community forum galleries or blogs for a few ideas. All these avenues give me the lift I need to get things going!

In the Beginning...

My first connection with Scraps of Color was through the African American Scrapbook group on Yahoo. I had been into crafting for as long as I can remember, so when scrap booking started to define itself of course I jumped on board! I searched through various magazines to gain information on the products available to this new hobby, and found my first forum at CK, among others. Although the forums were fun, friendly and introduced me to new ideas and online galleries, I felt "distant", and I never quite saw a reflection of "me" there. When Tiare created the first SOC forum I was delighted to be a member. On SOC, we share our art, skills, information and LIFE together!

My first swap ever was a calendar swap. It was so much fun to do and the pages that my sistahs created were BEAUTIFUL! I received many compliments on it from my hair clients and I'm glad that I made mine a perpetual calendar so I can I still use it today!

We have a wonderful group of card making sistahs (and a brotha!) here that create some beautiful and uplifting cards. I’ve found that the more I make cards, the better I get. I usually like to participate in the annual Christmas Card Swaps.

Who's a Disney FREAK!?!?

...I AM, I AM!

Totally bit by the Disney Bug!!!

Our first trip ever to Walt Disney World took place August 20th thru the 27th. My sister always goes each year and this year, after seeing her photos, we decided to take the plunge. We saved up and began to plan. This in itself is a process! I think we got a great deal and we decided to drive. Then there's AUGUST! Yes, we went in August and yes it was really hot, but it was the best time to go because it was cheaper and in most places the kids started back to school.

We drove down to Florida on Saturday-it was our first time ever in Orlando, too! I love to travel so we took our time and stopped to see the sights, eat and rest. When I saw the first palm trees and then the Orlando exit...my excitement hit full force!

I booked the resort online through Hotwire.com Hotdeals and WOW, let me tell you...I MUST be CRAZY! See, you don't know what hotel you get until you book it and PAY! Hey, what can I say, like living on the edge! LOL! But we got a great resort for a great price and I advise you now, STAY THERE!! Wonderful, beautiful resort, and a great staff.

Each day we had an adventure, full of magic and fantastic experiences. Such a great place, so much fun--really made us feel like kids again:

10 FUN things about ME...

...o.k., here I go...

1. I love creating things. Arts and crafts, DIY projects, etc. I love working with my hands; using fabrics, paper, glue, wood, beads, gadgets and tools; starting from scratch and watching my creations grow.

2. I'm a very curious person. I've always wondered how things work and I would take them apart (my etch-a-sketch, radio, and watches to name a few)!

3. I LOVE watching people-part of my curious nature.

4. My "dream location" is a home near the beach.

5. I sing in the shower...LOUD!

6. In public places I love to laugh and have fun, and my husband is quite the opposite; but at home we are rather goofy together.

7. I'm a hopeless romantic.

8. I like coordinating weddings & baby showers and creating/leading party games. Making the favors/prizes are the BEST part!

9. I value and really enjoy our family time. We watch movies and play board/card games. (The Game of Life, Taboo, Dirty Hearts, and Charades are my favorites).

10. I love helping people, walking in my calling, fulfilling my purpose and serving the Lord.

...keeping myself busy in 2010. Trying to take care of some things that I've somehow neglected both personally and physically, and return to some of my hobbies that I used to enjoy.

...going to the doctor, seems I have tendinitis in my shoulder, elbow AND wrist.:

The way it was...

The basement renovation has given me a chance to re-organize my space and add some additional storage. With the weight bench in the space now, I have to downsize my stash and get rid of some of my older goodies. I'm having a bit of fun with this idea, as I love to organize. Feels like a garage sale coming on!!

As I say goodbye to December...

...I can truly say that this year has been one of the most interesting years that I can remember. A lot has happened that I can note as memorable milestones in my life and the lives of those I know and love. Some were joyous while others, sorrowful, but still they have changed my life forever.

Do YOU have a life changing experience that stands out in 2009?

As the New Year looms around the corner I'm reminded of all of the past goals that I had set for myself.

Christmas Eve 2009

2006 it was "completion", to complete the tasks set out before me. I'm still in the process today, and I'm doing pretty good, too!

In 2007 I "reflected, released and rejoiced" I believed that I CAN do it (and I did!)

In 2008 it was a new season for me, a season of "expectation" and "preparation", I quit my job and went back to school, and changed my career. (AND I'M LOVING IT)!!!

In 2009 I set my attainable goals as:

Spend more time with family (i.e. travel, vacation, conversation) (Did it)
Read more, and turn the TV OFF!!!! (oooooh this one was HARD!!!)
Spend less money on scrapbook supplies...(AARRGGGG! that was a hard one to write down)! (Yep, I can truly say that this was achieved)
Happily dedicate myself more toward my responsibilities (i.e. home, church, community) (happy and dedicated, too! LOL)
Pray more (And I did more publicly...yay ME!)

Next month I'll share what goals I've set for 2010. Feels weird saying and writing 2010! Speaking of which, My hubby and I are going to our 30th year Class of 80 Reunion in July! Who's OLD?!!! Not ME!!!! Got to lose some weight, though, I got to represent! LOL!

How was your Christmas? My parents, Sissy & BIL came to stay and I enjoyed the preparation of their arrival and their stay.

Of course there were some stressful moments, like their flight here. NWA lost my Mommy's luggage, delayed them in Detroit, they had to pay an extra $10 for a ride to their next gate, AND...my Dad forgot to pack his undies!!!! LOL! Whooooo! What an experience! But they arrived safe and in good spirits. I love having them and wish they all lived closer to us. Their trip home was safe and with a lot less drama.

On Christmas Day we gathered at my home to exchange gifts:

Trying to keep things within our means and not over spend. I was concerned with the cost of travel and the debt that comes after the holidays. It seem to linger on through half the year. NO MORE!!! We have to be more wise in our spending. We are going through some troubling times in the economy...

The Sushi Caper!

It snowed here on Christmas Day just while we were opening our gifts. It's as if someone said : "Cue the snow" I loved it cause it didn't stick!

Trey really impressed us with his thoughtful presentation and gifts. It really warmed our hearts. I love handmade gifts! They are so meaningful. My kidults really played "Santa" well this year! Love you guys!

We cooked, baked, and ate like crazy. We had friends over and shared in good times. All in all it was a great holiday.

So, the Holidays are almost over and the new year is upon us. What do you do to prepare for the coming year? What were YOUR goals and resolutions from last year? Last Day of the Month...

...and I'm just now blogging! Shame on me! Not a lot to blog about except:

Labor Day came and we had family and friends here for the holiday

because that's when Hubby did his initial sermon. His scripture focus

came from John 3:1-13 and the subject was entitled:

"Man's Quest for Salvation." Can a man be born again?

And we are so proud of him! It was an emotional

event for all of us.

Our long time friends, Pickle & Romy came and

ministered in song. We appreciate you SO much, and

the event would not have been the same without you.

Love you guys!

And our family support was awesome!

Thanks to all who sacrificed to travel for support. We're feelin' the love!

DH said when he looked out over the congregation and saw the faces of each

person, he was reminded of how each one planted something

special into his life, and it was an overwhelming and humbling experience.

I'm especially grateful for his sister, Teenie who has MS, who travelled to

be with us. To me, she represented his late mother who

would not have missed this for the world!

I know Big Momma was smiling on that day!

And thank you to all who sent cards, letters, gifts

and prayers of encouragement! It DOES matter!

Our 26Th Wedding Anniversary is tomorrow and I should be

asleep..but I'm NOT!

My Sissy is here in Nashville and I can't wait to do the Hobby Lobby with her on Friday.

We love to eat this, too! Can't wait. Yum!

Went for a walk thru all my fave bloggers tonight; haven't done that in ages and it sure was fun. I found out that Tiffany has digi classes on hers, Adrienne is still rambling on Wednesdays (LOL), Essence is still keepin' it real, Tasra shared "the strongest life test for women" and I found out that my lead role is Motivator. Lisa shared some beautifully inspiring photos of her sisters "Mothers Blessings", and Donna & Tiare have inspired me to hit the scrap space this weekend. Some of them are recovering from illnesses, and others are still creating, living and sharing.

I received some great inspirations from you all and I appreciate you all. I was getting ready to get rid of my blog, but you have encouraged me so much that I'm just gonna keep on blogging!

Stamp by Rowena Fields A Faith Perspective

August has been a busy month! We've given alot of our time this month and the rewards have been great:

We had the Annual Back to School Bash where we sent children back to school with Jesus on their minds and in their hearts and supplied over 3000 students with back packs and school supplies. It's such a blessing to be able to help the community.

One young man even won a computer donated by the Sigmas:

It was hard work, and the weather was hot, but it was well worth it! Thanks to all the community volunteers who came out to help this year and we hope to see you all next year.

Well, she did it!
My eldest has graduated...and now it's time to find a job, hee, hee uh huh!

I'm so proud of my daughter, she obtained her A.A.S. in Surgical Technology from Miller Motte, with HONORS!

It was such a surprise to us when we sat down and read the Commencement program.

Magna Cum Laude, that's the second highest honor given to a student, oops, I should say earned by, (nothing is given away academically in college) and hard work and determination reaps great rewards. We didn't know this when we got to the graduation but only found out right before the ceremony. I cried through the whole thing.

I say this as a testimony and an inspiration to someone who has heard from one source or another that they cannot make it, that they aren't worth anything, or that they believe or have been told that they are dumb, stupid or incapable of learning or coming out of whatever disability or disadvantage they may be trying to overcome.

When my daughter was starting school, she was told by therapists, school leaders, teachers AND special education teachers, that she would never be able to read, or receive a regular education; so we were to prepare her by teaching her how to read stop signs, learn home skills and to read fast food applications cause that was the only type of job she'd be able to obtain. As parents, we've looked at scholastic and psychological test scores and have been discouraged by what we've been told. People have discouraged her, ignored her and doubted her, told her she'd never make it and some days, in her eyes, it looked as though they were right.

But how many know that with God, all things are possible?!!! Yes I prayed, prayed with her, believed God and was lead in the directions which helped me to gain the tools to further educate my baby, thus helping her to read (hooked on phonics DID work for US!), do math (she learned algebra on her own, cause the teachers would not add it to her IEP) and overcome the obstacles that were trying to keep her bound. You see, people these days don't always have the patience to deal with others, certainly when it takes up their time and energy. The school systems are so jammed packed with students, that those with special needs get lost in the shuffle. Teachers sure have their hands full these days, and it takes a special person to be an educator. And unfortunately, everyone isn't in it for the love of the job.

It takes the parent along with the teacher to invest time, patience, education and love into the student and I thank God for all the teachers who've uplifted, encouraged, and invested their knowledge into my children, saw the need, listened and actually cared for us. She is proof that you can make it! Janel, I'm soooo proud of you and we love you.

Getting the home together

cause we got family coming to town! I'm so excited cause this is the first time that some of our family has been to our home here in Tennessee. We tend to be the ones who do most of the traveling to see our families, and I do love to travel. But it's been our experience, and talking with other military families, likewise, that when you live so far way, you tend to be the ones making the travel sacrifice and you almost feel "forgotten". I'm so excited when family comes, and can hardly wait.

They are coming to hear Hubby deliver his initial sermon. I made some announcements for the event:

Food + Family + Friends =

FUN!

Summer fun '09 took place at Stew & Mel's house in NJ. They are leaving NJ and moving on to new territories.

Ocean City boardwalk and beach has become our family's destination summer spot for the pass several years, and combined with family, food, friends, and fireworks, parting the area made this year a sweet, sweet sorrow!

Had a great fellowship in the backyard:

Made the kids stay outside all day,

no video games, TV, or air conditioning!

Now that's something you don't see nowadays!!!

They had old-fashioned fun, too, playing water gun and balloons,

badminton, and even catching frogs!

Had a volleyball competition The Kid VS the Adults: of course, WE WON!!!!!

Cooked up a mess of food on the Grill:

And ate like crazy! Why is it, when you go back home you try to eat at all of your fave hot spots and foods? Boy, I'm STILL trying to recoup!

Loved Atlantic & Ocean City while we had it, (we probably won't be visiting there as much anymore) and I praise God for the beautiful home He provided them.

I know that their next home in their new state will be just as beautiful, and I can't wait to experience the next adventures we will have, new friends we will make and the new memories we will build there.

Anyone who know me knows I had to deal with the Tensaw River bridge that goes over the swamplands!

YIKES!!!

Last time I went over it I had to sit on the floor of the car, this time Hubby made me take some pictures! And yeah, I was kinda freakin' out:

And the Hubby still had a chance to play golf!

It's been about 20 years since we've visited and it was well over time to return.

He wanted to see his GrandMa Ora Dee and Uncle M & Auntie L.

Everyone was doing great and it was such a joy to see Grandma:

She cried tears of joy when he showered her with kisses! She may not have been able to speak anymore after her stroke, but Hubby started talking to her, telling her about the family, pouring out his heart, she rolled over and looked at him and her lips were moving as if to respond, "hey baby, I sure missed you..." and they communicated, his aloud, hers, silent. It was beautiful! And I believe that our flesh may die daily, we age, but the Spirit-man continues to live-it's by the Spirit that we continue to communicate. My late Nana may have had Alzheimer's, but when you read her a scripture or sang a hymn, she remembered every word! So, go visit the elderly and read, talk, or just minister by presence...

We even went over to the street that hubby and his family grew up on:

Later that day we toured the City of Mobile and tried to catch the African-American Archives & Museum while it was still open:

Needless to say, it was closed on Saturdays! But I did catch a couple of historical landmarks:

Mobile is rich in culture and history and I really wished we had more time to tour. I'd love to get the chance to visit Mobile Bay, Foley, Pensacola FL, and New Orleans one day. Maybe we can do that this summer-steal away and just DRIVE! Until then, thanks for looking and..

April Showers...

...makes us some really soggy people! Thank goodness for the sun finally beginning to shine, and I'm about ready to take to the yard and start planting. I just love spring! I was sitting in my car waiting for someone to come unlock the church doors and just looking at the rain on the windows, and almost immediately, the sun started to peek through the clouds and this is what I saw-a most welcomed sunset. Beautiful!

In this month I've experienced some up notes, like,

For my 47th Birthday my co-workers really let me have it!

They chalked my car,

And THEN they made me dress up in a tiara and beads with a wand and say

"bling, it's my birthday" whenever a patient came to the desk! {{{sigh}}}}

Until I found the time to wash my car,

I had people honking and waving at me for 3 days!

I'll get them...revenge is SWEET!

Boredom is prevalent around this time at work. Just a hint of what it's like:

My boss took his last hurrah by doing his first venipuncture in years:

We lost a dear friend to a tragic traffic accident. Kashera was a beautiful young lady who I loved dearly, to her I was her "T.T." Both of us shared a common bond by being the eldest child, taking care of our siblings at an early age. We would discuss this sometimes as we prepared for dance rehearsal with the Daughters of Zion.

Kashera's smile lit up the room when she entered, and her eyes looked right into your soul. She was beautiful both inside and out! She was able to hear her 7 month old daughter, Monica say "Mommy" for the first time on the morning of her accident.

She loved life and was a great influence to other young people her age wherever she went.

And she loved the Lord and served Him until the day she left this earth.

My Aunt Rosetta in Ohio has gone on to be with the Lord, I pray for comfort for my cousin Natalie and her family and traveling grace to them as they take care of some arrangements for her memorial. I pray for peace to the entire Corbin Family during this time of bereavement.

But the Greatest note is this:

We must always enjoy life, each and every day, no matter what it brings. The good and the bad, the happy and the sad, must always be celebrated. You never know, when you see someone it may be the last time, so always have a kind word on your lips and peace in your heart. We are living in some crazy days! And there is more to come...keep you foundation in Christ, and if you don't know Him, get to know Him. Spread love, and give peace a chance. You just never know...so until then

is coming for Resurrection Sunday this year and I'm so glad. It will be good to see them again.

The only sad thing about being so busy is I hardly have time to . As I make my way to the laundry room, I see my and take a long, loving look at it as I pass by...(sigh)

...it's almost March and I'm just now updating my blog! Didn't mean to do it on purpose, well, yeah I kinda did, I just got a little bit busy with life and ministry. Loving the job, things at church are going well, painfully hard when you've lost a loved one-we're all still a little tender hearted...but we're healing!

I did a scrapbook page about the many changes to my look over the years: I didn't realize how many times I've changed my hairstyle! I consider myself a simple person, always taking care of other people and their hair problems, but never taking time out for myself. Since I'm no-fuss, I really don't mind, but lately I've been realizing that I've got to take care of me! I'm even going to start visiting the dentist more regular,(heck, the cleanings are FREE)!!! and I'm taking time off to see my family provider-getting my women's wellness check up-no matter how much I hate it (scooch down, please, a little more, a little more....)!

Radio stations routinely pay money to people so that they will tell their most embarrassing stories on the air. Here is what is believed to be a story of a "lucky" winner of one of these contests:

I was due later that week for an appointment with the gynecologist, when early one morning I received a call from his office saying that I had been rescheduled for early that same morning at 9:30 AM. I had just packed everyone off to work and school and it was around 8:45 already. The trip to his office usually took about 35 minutes, so I didn't have any time to spare. As most women do, I like to take a little extra effort over hygiene when making such visits, but this time I wasn't going to be able to make the full effort. So I rushed upstairs, threw off my dressing gown, wet the washcloth and gave myself a wash in "that area" in front of the sink, taking extra care to make sure that I was presentable. I threw the washcloth in the clothes basket, donned some clothes, hopped in the car and raced to my appointment. I was in the waiting room only a few minutes when he called me in.Knowing the procedure, as I am sure all women do, I hopped up on the table, looked over at the other side of the room and pretended I was in Hawaii or some other place a million miles away from here. I was a little surprised when he said, "My... we have taken a little extra effort this morning, haven't we?" but I didn't respond. The appointment over, I heaved a sigh of relief and went home. The rest of the day went as usual: some shopping, cleaning, the evening meal, etc. At about 8:30 that evening my 14 year old daughter was getting ready for a school dance, when she called down from the bathroom, "Mom... where's my washcloth?" I told her to get another from the cabinet. She called back, "No, I need the one that was here by the sink. It had all my glitter and sparkles in it."

Well, I'm impressed!

I read in a magazine somewhere that it's best to write down your concerns to address to the doctor when you think about them, I'm going to try that even though all we get is a measly 15 minutes! I'd better talk fast!

This month, I also organized a baby shower for a co-worker having her first baby. Made about 40 invitations and I have to say, they did come out cute. Made my sweety babies Valentine's Day card, too, so I have been a little crafty lately. I feel like it's time to knit an afghan for the new arrival (little Eli), I just love the inspiration I get from walking down those colorful yarn aisles in HL.

My daughter's 25th birthday was yesterday and my Mom's was on the 17th. Happy birthday, I love you and may you both have many more. Good people, February babies are, loving, caring and cool people!

Well, that's it for Feb. See you in a couple of days. Going to be busy soon with spring right around the corner, cleaning, finishing the decor and rearranging some thing around the home and scrap area. Even when it seems like nothing much is going on, there's always something to say, always something to remember. Just open your eyes and your heart, keep on living...

WOW!! 2008 was a turbulent year with many ups and too many downs. But through it all, I'm still here!
So with open arms I
And I can't wait to see what's in store for us all. Last night my family and I brought in the New Year hearing the Word during Watch night Services at our church. The fellowship was great, and the Word was right on time. We are to Prepare the Way...in our homes, schools, jobs, cities and churches.

My Hubby serves as a Deacon, he has been for the past ten years. Last night he publicly announced his call to Preach the Gospel as a Minister of God. He had discussed this with our Pastor, Raliegh, before he passed away earlier this year. I'm so excited for him. It's really a personal, and great responsibility. Please, those who pray and intercede, add us to your prayer petitions. His first sermon will be in December. At the end of service we had breakfast and it really hit the spot. I was full both physically and spiritually.

Today was a day of rest, reflection, and phone calls to family and friends to speak to them for the New Year. We barbecued ribs and brats and had potato salad, baked beans and cornbread. Ummm, Ummm, GOOD!!!

Even though I don't make resolutions, I do try to have goals set, it just makes thing less hectic in my head; certainly when you're an organizer.

So these are a few goals I thought about for the year 2009:

Spend more time with family (i.e. travel, vacation, conversation)
Read more, and turn the TV OFF!!!!
Spend less money on scrapbook supplies...(AARRGGGG! that was a hard one to write down)!
Happily dedicate myself more toward my responsibilities (i.e. home, church, community)
Pray more

I think these are attainable goals for this year. I'm going to assert myself and get things completed. I've done well in the past, and this year I'm going to do even better. Proud of ME!!

And, for 2009 I will and I pray you will too:

Be wise in your finances, health and home
Be a blessing to your co-workers and friends
And take care of one another and our environment

When I was a little girl, Christmastime was magical! I loved all the snow the North East would get, and I remember we'd stay outside all day, only to come in and warm up our toes, fingers and noses and then it was back outside for more snow day fun.

My sisters and I would make snow forts (<---try to, anyway) and snow men and snow angels.

Our favorite treat on snow days was Snow Cream. (Sandy's old fashion recipe is how we made ours!) Now a days, I don't like to walk from my car to the building in the cold!!!

Christmas Eve was exciting and fun too. I remember my Grandma Carrie used to make Christmas decorations, they were beautiful. We'd decorate the Tree with multi-colored lights and then sit with our heads directly under the tree, squint our eyes and marvel at the illuminant glow the lights would cast on the ceiling. Our living room took up the whole front of our ranch-style home, and the hallway ran straight down the middle. If we poked our heads out our room at the end of the hallway we could see that beautiful tree standing there staring right back at us! I used to peek out after everyone had gone to bed when all the lights were out and the silhouette of the tree casting shadows used to scare me. I didn't dare walk down that dark hallway let alone go the the bathroom by myself! But to sneak a peek at the tree skirted with presents gave us all sleepless nights-from the grown-ups who wrapped presents, decorated and played Santa and partied till the early morn; to us kids who hung onto every word and whisper, song, and smell of candy, fruit and cookies being left for Santa! We couldn't sleep! By 5 am we were up and ready to open our gifts-by now we had made several trips to "The Tree" sneaking by our parents door, watching our every step (even plotting a path the night before on where to actually step so the floor wouldn't squeak!) and using different methods just to see how many gifts were under the tree...(The Red Ball) LOL!!!

Our home was a gathering place for friends and family and we always had parties and good food flowing. The scents that bring back memories of the holidays for me are cloves, oranges, apples, onions, celery, turkey, breads, cinnamon, paint, and pine!

I love this time of year. Even with all the hustle and bustle, it's still my favorite time of year.

Shopping is fun but can get a bit frustrating with rude people and crowded conditions.

We make our own memories now, my family and I. We try to instill the true meaning of the season, helping those in need, praying for others and keep focus on Christ and His second coming by celebrating the Advent season. I apply that excitement and anticipation to the season just as I anticipated when I was a child waiting for Santa. Remembering this keeps me grounded, rooted, and happy all season long.

...It's that time again where we give thanks for all we've been blessed with: family, health, jobs, food, covering and life! It's been an eventful, whirl-wind of a year for me, 2008, but I'm still here! I've cried and prayed, prayed and cried, lend-ed a hand to friends, and even given a shoulder for them to cry on...we should bear one another's burdens. In supporting and praying for others I've found it very therapeutic for myself.

I haven't found any time to create scrapbook pages yet, this job keeps me going, but I did take some pictures of All Saints Day at work. I don't practice the Halloween ritual, but I did dress-up just for fun. I do go around on that day and ask others what I can pray for on their behalf-my way of reclaiming a hallowed tradition:

The J.O.B. is going great and I love being a phlebotomist. I'm busy as ever and even doing overtime on some Saturdays. I do love being there and my co-workers are nice. Same ole run-of-the-mill work place drama, you know, but nothing to get all stressed-out about or all involved in. I try to remain level-headed and keep the peace; make sure I don't get drawn-into the drama, cause Lord knows I got enough going on personally!!!

The 101st was featured on 60 Minutes Sunday with some eye-opening footage, and now they're returning home so I'm taking some time out right now to give some acknowledgement to our Soldiers! I thank God for you and appreciate everything you all do for our safety, and your contribution on keeping the peace and freedom of this Nation.

I've seen soldiers return with limbs lost, limping, hands unable to hold pencils to write their names. I've seen one young man, had to be younger than my son, with shrapnel and scars embedded all over his swollen face, except for the area where he'd worn his eye protection. When you see this for yourself, it makes you realize that these are real people fighting and not just news stories. Pray for our soldiers and all who defend us.

And pray my strength that I may continue to encourage them and touch their lives with tender-loving care. And,

Back to Work!

Well, "vacation" is over and now I'm back in the work force. So many years of being self-employed and working my own schedule was a great experience and I appreciate it. Now, getting up every day at a certain time and working for someone else is a welcoming change, something I haven't done in a long time. And the fact that I don't have to drive an hour to and from Nashville makes this transition so much easier!

I do love the early morning risings, the crisp, clean air, the color of the sky, and the quietness. And with Autumn right around the corner, the days will be getting shorter, the dusk's and dawns darker. I love Autumn!

My sister, Mellow and I went back to school around the same time-she got her degree in teaching and I'm sooo proud of her! (wish she'd send me some pictures of her graduation, hint, hint)

She took time off to raise her two sons:

and now she's back in the work force. She's teaching English to the 9th-11th grade. She was full of different emotions about returning to work and now since starting back has said "You, know, working is not all it's cracked up to be"! LOL And I agree, I agree!

So, I said I was going to participate in my Graduation ceremony, and I did. I was the only one from my January Phlebotomy class:

The evening was a blur, it went by so fast! I remember thinking before I walked across the stage, "just don't fall, just don't fall"! Hubby said I walked so fast that he didn't have time to get a good picture:

Through all my ups and downs, school, joblessness, The whole transition. They mean so much to me and having them there cheering me on really made me feel blessed. Graduation!!!

Well, the day is drawing close! My Graduation Day is on Monday the 25th of this month. I really wished we would have had the ceremony right after we finished phlebotomy school, but, things are how they are and I've decided to participate. Here is a one-time chance to do something for ME and I'm going to do it!

At first I thought the graduation ceremony wasn't that important,

most of my classmates said the same thing,

but then I thought, when will I have the chance to do this again?

Hey, I just noticed something; I recently decided to go natural,

so now in both photos I'm stylin' a 'fro...Funny!

Time may fly by, but I remember someone saying it's what you do between the dates that matter {birth--death}

And I want to make my dash memorable. While the majority of my classmates said that they would not, I'm going to participate in my graduation proudly, boldly, happily! I'm proud of my accomplishments, and this is just one more step toward completing my goals in life. I can't wait! I'll blog the ceremony soon!

Meanwhile...I missed my family reunion this year...again! So disappointed about that!

On the spiritual tip, a friend of mine has on her email signature:

"2008: a Year of Demonstration." I've been thinking about that quote for a while now

because so many things have happened to me and my family in 08' that I can't

and won't even go into!

But I will share this: you can be going along in life, thinking you've got everything all figured out and WHAM find yourself asking "What is going on"! or "How could this have happened"? or even "Why do bad things happen to good people"?!

I do remember the Lord telling me in 05' that He was moving and piecing everything into place.

You know that "mess" you have when you first start deep cleaning and re-organising?

That's how I feel right now. A little overwhelmed, don't know where to start, or even what to do.

But I've resolved all this to God and I know the end results will be beautiful!!!

In 1 Peter 5:8 the Word tells us to "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

We may not see everything coming, but we are being watched! And the enemy is just waiting for his chance to check in! This is why we must always be diligent, and ready on our posts through prayer and fellowship with God. He knows our every way, because He goes before us in battle. Yes, trials and tribulations come, and sometimes we may not have anyone to run and tell or share things with, but I have a Friend who is my Comforter, Provider, Healer, Deliver, closer that any other in my life. I'm glad in knowing that when trials come my way there is A Way Maker.

So in Luke 22:31, when Jesus predicted Peter's denial and said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. He knew exactly what was coming, even when Peter didn't!

But the promise, oh, the promise of the Lovely One is this: "But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.” Luke 22:32

And so, my friends, be strong and of good courage (Joshua 1:9) for we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37) and our trials are here to strengthen us, and develop in us patience

(James 1:3-5). And in believing this, I am comforted.

I "Graduate" in many ways this month!!!

What's MY motivation?!

Roberta! Roberta has given us the drive, the enthusiasm, a reason to reorganize! Her mission came right on time as I took the time this weekend to gaze into my scrap space and observe it in all it's incompleteness:

I've been refreshed and renewed-ready to jump in and get the job done!

Of course you do realize that I had to stop cleaning and organizing to get out the laptop and blog this, right?

Big LOL!!!

What WAS my motivation? Oh yeah, that's right...gotta stay focused...

I remember on Saturdays when I was young my Mom would wake us up, give us a bucket, then she would put on her oldie but goodies album and we would clean until things sparkled! No playing outside, no watching TV-nothing' til it's all done! At around noon we'd watch Fat Albert and eat lunch, and THEN we were excused to ourselves for the rest of the day. What happened to that part of my life? What happened to the discipline of days gone by?

Where IS my motivation? Where? Over here...?

It's better when you have someone else along for the cleaning venture, so I'm going to try to hang in there with Roberta and the gang and get this space organized, cleaned up and ready to do some serious projects. I want to complete at least 3-4 albums this year so I really need to do this.

I just hope I can keep my motivation from getting lost in all this mess!

And it doesn't have to be your scrap space, it can be an office, a bedroom or even a closet. Anything that can be reorganized and cleaned up in your life is worth the time so come on and join us and,

What?

In the twinkling of an eye, it's gone! A glimpse of beautiful scenery, a funny or special moment, a valuable treasure and sometimes...even a life.

On June 4th around 11:15 I got a call that rocked my world. Funny how I even remember the time. My friend and Co-Pastor of my church called me in a frantic message stating that things were "bad" really "bad". At first I thought it was my daughter calling to say she had been in an accident, but when I asked her to slow down and breath, I realized who it was.

The unexpected happened.

My Pastor, for the 13 years I've been in Clarksville, suffered a heart attack and didn't make it.

He was only 53.

While I did sit and wonder what in the world?! I now look back and can reflect on all he's accomplished, and realize just how great and good God is. God knows just what He is doing.

A man after God's own heart, he's laid foundation in this city as a ground breaker and an earth shaker...he marched to the beat of God's vision, no matter WHAT everyone else thought or did.

A pillar in the community, he wore his heart on his sleeve, sometimes taking shots from those who meant to do harm, and from those who didn't quite understand him. But he taught true forgiveness for EVERYONE and really prayed for his enemies. His favorite phrase was "know my heart" and seldom did anyone not.

He showed me what Agape love is. When those who would do me harm try me, he taught by example how to pray for them and I learned to ask the Lord to show me the principalities controlling them, so that I will despise THAT thing and not the person!

Pastor & Co-Pastor Jones

He taught the Word of God and lived the Word of God, having the love of the community and assisting them, our vision. He died while in the midst of working for God, sending school-age children "Back to School with Jesus on their minds!" His heart spread even wider serving and ministering to two nursing homes in the area-sometimes, sadly, only a few showing up to help. He just kept going for God!

He was a true spiritual father, God's Pastor, and friend. I will miss you, Pastor Jones, but I receive comfort in knowing that a great man of God has overcome and received his crown of life, Revelations 2:10 and is now, eternally praising our Lord!

And the heat index is rising. My Sissy and new Bubba came to visit Memorial Day weekend. It was their 6 year anniversary of when they first met:

We cooked out on the barbecue and even had "The Great Grill master" rib challenge. I made a certificate for the winner to be passed on after each challenge. Turned out, my DH won! It was really fun and the challenge is ongoing, so if you feel like you make the best ribs...BRING IT ON!!! LOL!

We went to Nashville on Memorial Day Monday and visited Andrew Jackson's home, The Hermitage. It's interesting to take a look back and see how people lived in the past:

After we left The Hermitage, it was off to Opryland Hotel. Here, and even at the Hermitage, there are Magnolia trees everywhere! I love the smell this time of year, so fragrant:

I Love it! Gives me more room to spread out and scrap or sew. Now I don't have to kneel on the floor to cut out material when I make banners:

Getting prepared for that day when we all (Mellow, Sissy and Mommy and I) can come and we can just scrap, make cards, eat, watch movies and laugh all day!!! Ah, one day...one day!

And last but certainly not least, I'm now volunteering with the American Red Cross! Really exciting because I'm volunteering with the Army Hospital. Starting tomorrow I'll be doing lab test for the returning/deploying troops from Iraq. I am proud to serve. Hopefully, I can get a position with them, they have several openings-cause as I stated in my last blog entry...a sistah needs a J.O.B.!!!

Haven't done a scrap page in a while, let alone any craft project, but I feel a creative surge coming on...maybe it's that new table calling me to create! Gotta go get some rest, want to be ready for tomorrow. But in the meantime, this month, remember to take a vacation or summer break, enjoy your family and friends, meditate on the goodness of the Lord and as always...

I know that I'm to wait and have patience and be still, but doubt and

anxiety still try to creep in.

I know that April 15th has come and gone, I was too wrapped up in my finals to even blog about the birthday. My family gave me dinner out, cards, and the most beautiful bouquet of yellow roses I've ever seen:

My Sissy, Sheka, surprised me with a wonderfully encouraging card, some stamps, a knifty knitter, and a gift card to none other than...HOBBY LOBBY!!

Yeah, dats wass up! She heard me when I said January was the last time I'd purchased anything crafty!

I was going through some serious with drawl, yawl!!! What a sweet relief.

And now...May 3rd. You know what day that is, don't you?

Why it's National Scrap booking Day!!!! Yay! I'm planning on joining in on some of the fun cruising my favorite websites like Scrapbook.com and Scraps of Color, Digital Scrap booking and Faith sisters. I'm going to roam around the cyberworld and have a great day just seeing what some of the artist around our communities have to offer. I may not be able to buy anything as of yet, but I can go along for the ride! Lol. Spring has Sprung...

...And all around I see signs of new life beginning, and being renewed. I like to take the time to look around and see colors and life spring into action-feels like we've been in a cave for months and now just discovering the world for the first time.

People tend to become more tolerable of each other, peaceful, ready to tune up and tan their bodies, work out and eat more healthy foods.

I also love the smell of fresh cut grass:

Thank God the rain has ceased for a spell in order to do a little yard work:

Planted phlox, put down fresh soil, fertilizer,

and even something to get rid of those pesky dandelions (et tu a sign of spring)!

I haven't had the chance to scrap anything lately, not even a digital page! But I was sitting at a stop light last week and I happened to look up, and the distant horizon looked to me like a giant pink and purple mountain spread across the sky. And posted to the left of that scene was a billboard sign that said "Got Life?"

Everything seemed to slow to a stop. The view was beautiful. The thought was provoking.

"Got Life?" Well, do I?

From year to year the seasons change, from Winter, to Spring, then from Summer to Fall-it's expected! And it happens! But what goes on in between these changes?

What do you do with your life?

Hibernation occurs during winter, plants, insects and animals sleep and a preserving process takes place. And while asleep, they are taken care of unaware of the elements around them. Nature is protected. What keeps us while we are in that state?

You know, a friend of ours says "everyone has two dates-a birth date and a date of death, but it's what you do in-between those dates that count"! That little hyphen has such a big impact.

John 10:10 tells us "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly".

To have abundant life!

I will live life to the fullest, stopping each season to grab onto and appreciate the simple things around me. I will enjoy family and friends, and by faith and prayer, persevere through difficult times. Resting in Him and believing that He protects me. So, Yes, I have life! And it is good!

So now I ask you-"Got Life?"

The Resurrection

Christ's resurrection.

(Matthew 28:9)

Christ rose the third day after his death; that was the time he had often spoken of. On the first day of the first week God commanded the light to shine out of darkness. On this day did He who is the Light of the world, shine out of the darkness of the grave; and this day is from henceforward often mentioned in the New Testament, as the day which Christians religiously observed in solemn assemblies, to the honour of Christ. Our Lord Jesus could have rolled back the stone by his own power, but he chose to have it done by an angel.

The resurrection of Christ, as it is the joy of his friends, so it is the terror and confusion of his enemies. The angel encouraged the women against their fears. Let the sinners in Zion be afraid. Fear not ye, for his resurrection will be your consolation. Our communion with him must be spiritual, by faith in his word. When we are ready to make this world our home, and to say, It is good to be here, then let us remember our Lord Jesus is not here, he is risen; therefore let our hearts rise, and seek the things that are above. He is risen, as he said.

Let us never think that strange which the word of Christ has told us to expect; whether the sufferings of this present time, or the glory that is to be revealed. It may have a good effect upon us, by faith to view the place where the Lord lay. Go quickly. It was good to be there, but the servants of God have other work appointed. Public usefulness must be chosen before the pleasure of secret communion with God. Tell the disciples, that they may be comforted under their present sorrows.

Christ knows where his disciples dwell, and will visit them. Even to those at a distance from the plenty of the means of grace, he will graciously manifest himself. The fear and the joy together quickened their pace. The disciples of Christ should be forward to make known to each other their experiences of communion with their Lord; and should tell others what God has done for their souls.

May the peace of God and the joy of our risen Saviour be with you, always!

Spring Break

Well, this week I'm on Spring Break from school. Got nothing much planned...at least not like your young people's version: MTV Spring Break

Then I'd be like Lois in this episode of The Family Guy...I shutter to even imagine!

Whew!

Anyway...
I've completed the lecture/lab portion of my class and after this week of well needed rest I'm headed off to Baptist Hospital to do my clinical. I'm going to miss my classmates. We had a great class and a wonderful instructor. Our pot luck on the last day was nice and the table decor theme (lab requisitions as place mats, specimen cups, band aids, lab tubes etc.) that Don put together was very clever:

We had fellowship, ate, danced and laughed.
Good time...made parting bittersweet.

For the few weeks that we had class together I've gotten to know and appreciate each fellow student, and I've taken with me great memories and a portion of each person, something good and wise, and this I will always remember.

So...

While on break I plan on finishing my books, PSE6 and Digital Designs 2, and start making some backgrounds and embellishments for digital scrap booking:

And probably work on my double crochet Afghan:

And DH promises to help me build my craft table-can't wait to get THAT finished!

to TD Jake's Manifest 08 in Texas!

He had a wonderful time with the exception

that it snowed on their golf day:

He said the fellowship was great and the Message from each session teacher was refreshing and timely. What he received overall from the Conference was "Past Experiences, Expectation and Your Destiny"

Sounds like a great title for my next blog!

So nearing the end...
I'm both excited and a little nervous about clinical, focused and determined to finishing this course. I like this field and I'm glad I decided to go forward in it. Who knows where all this will lead us and where I'll go from here! Until then...

Going with the flow...

Offering my arm as a sacrifice!

...during this busy time, trying to keep up with my usual daily duties, stay stress-free, and keep things as "normal" as possible (whatever THAT means) has been trying!!! I just need to get real and realize that I can't do and be EVERYTHING to and for everybody. So, the laundry sits clean in it's basket, dinner is not the basic square meal every day (maybe twice a week if we're lucky :0), and my poor house has see better days. But I have a great family who sticks right with me for the most part, and I can breathe pretty easy as I fit myself into a feasible routine.

I have, however, seem to have caught the "crud" that has been unwantedly shared around here. Sinus and head congestion, and body aches, have slowed me down. I don't know what's worst, having a cold and being able to keep going, or being down and out for the count and staying home nursing one. I would rather have neither, but being home for a day to recoup has given me a chance to do a digipage:

We (phlebotomy class) are in the middle of our studies, getting geared up to start our Clinical in March. That's when we do on-site training. I pray that I get placed in a nice hospital and that I'm able to get my 200 sticks successfully. Not quite ready to do them in the observation lab just yet, the anatomical arm is a far cry from sticking someone. But in a few more days I should be ready. I take this new venture very seriously, so I'm just taking my time, gaining info, being patient, to be the best that I can be.

I have a great class, a wonderful instructor and I've met some great people. There are 13 of us and we really "stick" (no pun intended) together, and we work well together.

So, as you can see, I've been pretty busy with school, and I really do miss being able to create and scrapbook. But for right now, I realize that it's time to make the memories...and I'm enjoying every minute of it! So until next time...

It's a New Season...

a fresh anointing,

is flowing my way.

It's a Season of Power

and Prosperity,

It's a New Season, and it's coming to me!

Welcome 2008!

And with it comes new and exciting things. I'm expecting! I'm pregnant...

...with possibilities!

See, when a women is expecting a new child there are important preparations made,

1. In her body-it's being prepared to except the new tenant taking residence,

and

2. The home-it's being made to accommodate the newest member of the family.

And there are other things taking place, too, financial securities are being made, food choices and even spiritual and parental teachings and so on.

When you're expecting, you don't really know what's gonna happen, but you prepare, none the less. When I look back over the past year, I see that a preparation was being made.

Now I can appreciate the former things...

Sleeping late: Boy, I sure miss this!!!

Great Customers & Friends: They say you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone.

I had some great customers who followed me to the end. Some for about 15 years. That's a long time! I know that we'll still keep in touch!

A place to work when people let you down: I really don't know how we did it. But in two week, when things didn't work out with a co-worker in her new business, I was given a safe and peaceful place for my patrons. And DH did it all by himself.

I'm so proud of him and thankful for a covering who has faith in me!

Labor pains from all the past things, are contracted into my future and they are preparing me to push out my promise. And in this new season, I'm going full force, nothing to numb me...I want to feel it all! Crazy I know, but it's what you do when you want to experience everything there is about a blessed event.

Like starting a new career: getting up early (5 a.m.) and driving 1 hour each way. Learning new vocabulary and carrying books so heavy, my arm's doing a Billy Dee!

To step out on faith seems hard, sometimes hurts and takes lots of energy and effort. Failures in life kept me bound, unable to trust in people, and procrastination, uh, it became my middle name. Dragging my feet to the beat of "what ifs" and "I don't wants" kept me locked up in fear.

But truly, now I believe that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 2 Corinthians 3:17 And in Him I am made free, made whole, and I appreciate all that He provides. My preparations have given me a blessed event that I can cherish forever. My labor has not been in vain. I pray that you and yours are blessed in this year, and if you have not yet moved into your possibilities, well then I pray for you a pregnancy this season that is healthy, happy and Everything that you have ever expected.

Well, Christmas is over...

...the "holiday" perspective, that is! We had a wonderful time on Christmas Eve baking cookies, drinking eggnog and playing Monopoly-just the 4 of us.

I didn't get into bed until 2:30 a.m. cause the scene was serene and I just spent time reflecting on the goodness of God and the beauty that is Him. I am so grateful.

On Christmas Day my cousin DD called us around 7:30 a.m. He was so energized that I just went on and got up. He always encourages me when he calls.

The kidults were stirring and Junior was already in place:

And I must confess, I was just as excited as he was cause I wondered if this:

A nice, quiet celebration with the family. I sure appreciate that because...

...the New Year will bring some changes in my life. I'm going back to school in January. I got accepted to a career college for phlebotomy. I also received a Grant to go-all I have to pay is $57.00! Can you believe that?! I'm very excited and a little scared. I have to train myself to rise early (I am SOOOOO not a morning person!) and I have to drive about an hour each way 5 days a week. But I can do ALL things! Yes I can, and I'm going forward, determined to walk out this vision that God had given. I'll keep you updated as much as possible on my progress and success!

Take the Time...

...to enjoy the now, your life today. We get so caught up in the holidays and we tend to get overwhelmed. Time lines don't get met, "we always do it like this" becomes our motto. Tempers get short, depression sets in, bills become a burden because of all the things we WANT to get for ourselves and for others. I know, believe me, I know! Some things look so enticing that I start to reason with myself-"I deserve it"...I say, or "maybe we can go without such and such", or "CHARGE IT"!!! becomes our champion call! Yeah, I hear you. But when I think about the good things I've done, and the blessings I already have, and the great people I know, the need to "please everyone and do everything" doesn't seem so necessary. A kind word or gesture pays forward so much, and praying for someone in need is the best gift you can give.

It's a Change of Season!

Autumn is here! I thought with the summer drought there wouldn't be much of a colorful show, but the trees are beautiful and there is a wonderful crispness in the air.

While driving down the highway, the scenery inspired me to do a couple of layouts:

We've finished one of our Do-It-yourself projects-the floors!

the process was well worth the effort.

I've gone from being a cosmetologist (for 26 years) to a soon-to-be phlebotomist, AND at the age of 45! Whew! But I will move----and live by faith. I'll miss the old, but I've got to embrace the new. I'm excited, and embracing the change.

Not only are there changes in career but home also! We're laying down hardwood floors and doing some painting. Ya know, just some upgrades here and there...

Such a pretty mess!

And all this will lead to new furniture,
then the kitchen gets an upgrade,
and blah, blah, blah. I can feel it, it's coming,
I know it's bound to happen! That's the DIY fever!

I've been thinking about investing in a 12x12 printer so I can fill up some of these albums that I have just lying around. I still love traditional scrapping, though, the hands-on creating-stamping, altering, cutting paper, all the textures and colors-that will NEVER go away!

Hummm, I just may visit the old scrap space later today and start the SMSB swap layout or even alter those wooden storage containers I have sitting on my desk...

This is what the space looks like now, uninspiring and junky (I'm in the middle of a space renovation):

I plan on making a longer table by using the cabinets as legs. I got the idea from an IKEA table I created, but the S&H cost more than the table itself!! I threw THAT idea out the window and I vowed my infamous "I can make that"! And so I will...eventually! lol

What a wonderful, beautiful place to have a wedding!

I made a video of the event. I just may add it here instead of downloading pictures. (I tried to download it, but kept getting error from Blogger... oh well!)

They had what is called a Sand Ceremony. I'll give a quick, brief explanation about the Sand Ceremony since some people have asked:

This ceremony is similar to the lighting of the Unity Candle. The individual vials of colored sand represent the Bride & Groom-who they were, are, and will be. When the two colors are joined in one container, it represents the two becoming one-and should be just as hard to separate! Also, this is how difficult, petty, and meaningless it should be to "pick out fault" in one another.

Family Reunions

They're exciting, but a little scary at times. I was immediately taken back to my younger days as we drove down the hot, country road towards my mother's home town.

The 70's "Fly girls" remember the pouches?

It's been about 5-7 years since I've last been to one, and I have to admit, I was a little hesitant about walking up on "the porch". Aunt Mags house, (the matriarch of the family) was the gathering place for the first day of the reunion.

Seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones soon took away the timidity and warm embraces followed.

The fish fry and fellowship was great and of course, gotta play Bid Whist!

It was encouraging to see Saturday's event lead by the younger generation. They did great with the program, preparing and serving the food, and I really loved meeting family attending for the first time

Laughing it up with my "cuzin's" There's just something peaceful about porch dwelling...

Capped off with an awesome fellowship Sunday with praise, worship, and a mighty word from God.

Here's a digi page I've done giving the "Golden Girls" their due. They are beautiful, seasoned, and full of fire...let me tell you!!!

I'm glad I went, and I'm sure I won't let time keep me away again!

Here we go...again!

Am I crazy or what? (who said yes?!) You must know me well cause I'm just returning from a 14 hour drive to Jersey, and packing up to drive to North Carolina this coming weekend! Family reunion. Been some time and I'm kinda excited. Haven't travelled in years and it sort of feels like when you haven't had your favorite dessert in awhile and you gorge out on it. So I'm calling' this "Gor-avel Time"!

We had a great first Gor-avel adventure:

The food was AWESOME!

Mellow prepared a dessert room, can u believe it? A DESSERT ROOM!!!!

Chocolate everywhere!!! We couldn't concentrate on playing games what for eating goodies.

I don't remember anything after that except laughing...a lot....really hard...what a rush!

And most of all, the Bride to Be was truly blessed (even though most of the gifts were for the groom...he's the cook!)

Success to the hostess, my incredibly talented sister Mellow Mel. She did an awesome job!
...a little stressed maybe, but talented!

Our time on the Ocean City and Atlantic City boardwalks was fun, even though it was chilly. (upper 70's)

Even Pops dog YaYa had a great time!

And I ate Tony's pizza & subs and Rita's Gelati's almost every day. Can you say 20 POUNDS!!!??

Once August comes and the wedding is finished and all this Gor-avel is over I can finally purge my photos into an album! Then I'll take a good "relaxative" to get this all outta my system! ;) Until then...

Here we go...

...it's travel time! Oh how I love to hit the open road.

I love waking up at 3 a.m., I'm groggy, but excited. We pack up the car with our favorite snacks and drinks in the cooler. Armed with a portable DVD player, my favorite scrap mags, sudoku puzzles, pillow and a blanket, we head out, it's still dark outside, but that's when we make our best time. No traffic, just cool early morning travel.

I always seem to wake up just in time to witness sunrise in the Great Smoky Mountains. Beautiful country! I wonder where the "smoke" comes from?!!!

I really have missed going to the Jersey Shore during summer. The last time we went, it was Thanksgiving about 2 years ago and it looked like this:

and we stayed all about 3 minutes....'cause it was FREEZING!!!!

But this time we'll get some sun and fun...

And eat some of my favorite "down the shore" foods like:

Pizza from Tony's and....

...THIS!!! My favorite, Rita's Gelati-Strawberry ice with chocolate custard! Tastes just like chocolate-covered strawberries...yeah baby!

And to top it all off, a great fireworks display on the beach.

And if you've never see fireworks over the water, make it a point to go, it's beautiful!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch...

I'm expecting to have a crop when I get to my sisters, so I'm excited about that, and there's always pictures to scrap after you've travelled. Feels like a dream to be able to shop for whatever you want-and it's FREE!!! Oh my I can't believe it!. I'm so glad I have some place to share my happiness and have people understand, cause my family, bless their hearts, they tried to rejoice with me, but they just don't KNOW!!! I just received the code today so I'm preparing myself to do some heavy SHOPPING!!!!! When the goodies arrive, I'll give you a look-see.

Meanwhile, I've been busy finishing some shower invites and I'm ready to get them in the mail. I think they turned out ok:

May is the month for Mother's Day and DH had a hard time this year. I don't think he has allowed himself to grieve fully, but everyone grieves in their own way. We all miss Big Momma, and this year was bittersweet.

I told the people that live in the house with me they could just give me money For Mother's Day and they came through!

The cards and flowers they gave me were beautiful...

...and I spent the day yesterday shopping at Kohls & Catos!

Had a great time and I pray your Mother's day was just as blessed and that you are enjoying this time of year!

Well it's been a whirlwind of a weekend for me! I've enjoyed the company of my husband as we explored Nashville together with a free 2-night stay with breakfast at the Holiday Inn Select courtesy of the Greenhill Marriage Ministry. Although I didn't feel like flying an airplane or solving the US deficit after staying there, I did have a great time and received much needed rest.

Our room was comfy cozy (with just one bathrobe for us to fight over)!

Friday...

We walked the Opry Mills Mall and ate at Tony Roma's!

On Saturday we dined at my favorite Chinese Bistro PF Chang's.

I just love their crab won tons! Gotta try 'em, you'll be spoiled for life!

Romance was in the air....that's all you need to know! wink, wink

Just spending quality time made it all worth while!

On Sunday, we had a wonderful worship service and received an awesome Word from the Lord through His servant Pastor Vinnie at the Olive Branch Church and then headed home.

When I arrived my lovely kidults surprised me with a day planned just for me.

Family and friends showered me with calls, love, cards, beautiful flowers and gifts...

...and then we gathered to have an awesome time at Hanaoki's Japanese Restaurant!

Everything was sooo entertaining and delish!
I had a marvelous 45th birthday surrounded by the people, places and things that I adore. Thank you all for making it a joyful memory.

Can't wait to scrap it!

It's a new Season...

Welcome 2007! Going in with a fresh outlook, gonna take my time and get things done. My goal last year was completion. Complete the tasks set before me. Been doing pretty good with that one. I will not take on these life changes just to go back to the way I was. So I'll continue to work with it until it becomes a part of me, then it's on to the next.

Integrity-a pretty serious ingredient in the makeup of one's character to me. Means a lot and I don't think people nowadays realize just how much what they say and do-or don't do affects others.

My husband woke me up early one morning this week laying hands and praying for me-scared me at first, cause the sleep was good! He told me today that praying for the kids felt different than praying for me. He said that praying for me felt like an extension of himself-like he was praying for himself. "Completeness" has now become rhema to him...and to me as well. 23 years and we're still learning and growing. I love him more and more...

So bumming around today has caused me to:

Reflect:

1. The year hasn't been that bad.

2. I haven't been that good (aacckk, clutch the pearls...)

but there's always room for improvement

Release:

1. This year WILL be better!

2. More prayer/meditation time.

3. I have to do things myself and stop waiting for others to make it happen for me.

4. Stop saying it and start doing it!

Rejoice:

I CAN do it!

And last but not least, look at the gifts I received from my Scraps of Color Secret Sistah Santa Swap & my CKMB "scrap twin"RAK! A great holiday bounty of blessings coming from a great community of people and it's a blessing just "knowing" you all! I had a ball shopping for them, too! Looking forward to some great challenges, swaps and scrapping time this year so until then...

The birth of Christ.

I'm Still Thankful

Whew! Turkey Day is over, but I'm still thankful to God for everything provided to us. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday filled with food, family, friends, peace, football and relaxation! Our dinner was good (if I should say so myself) and the fellowship was fun. My sister and her fiance' seem to be having a wonderful time here. We did get to go shopping on Black Friday-my first time ever. Of course it was SCRAPBOOK SHOPPING!!!! is there any other kind?!
